A recent planning decision affecting land near Halton has stirred local attention, with planners rejecting development on green belt land.

In a decision that reflects ongoing concerns about development and environmental protection, planners have refused a retrospective application to convert green belt land at Burtonwood into a residential site for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation. The decision was made by Warrington Borough Council and was confirmed on 5 January 2026.

The application — linked to land near Tan House Farm, Burtonwood — sought to change the use of the plot to a residential site with associated landscaping and access improvements. However, the council concluded that the proposal failed to provide safe and suitable access and represented an unsustainable location due to its distance from local services and transport options.
